Here at the Evangelium Institute, the instructors would like to share with you our favorite saint quotes and we hope you will share with us your favorites. As all should know, Catholics do not worship the saints in heaven. We see them as examples of heroic virtue and examples of pursuing Christ’s holiness in this life. We also understand them to be our heavenly intercessors, continuing the gift of intercession that we on earth offer each day that we pray for one another. Saints never occupy the place in our life reserved for God alone. They are part of our faith community, and they offer us inspiration. Here are our favorite quotes from such inspiring disciples of Christ.
Dcn. Omar Gutiérrez
“Do you have such faith that it is able to touch the hearts of your students and to inspire them with the Christian spirit? This is the greatest miracle you could perform, and the one that God asks of you, since this is the purpose of your work.”
-St. Jean Baptiste de La Salle
“Teaching unsupported by grace may enter our ears, but it never reaches the heart. When God's grace does touch our innermost minds to bring understanding, then his word, which is received by the ear, can sink deep into the heart.”
-St. Isidore of Seville
“I can say from my own experience how painful life often is when one lives as a half-way Christian; it is more like vegetating than living.”
-Bl. Franz Jägerstätter
Dr. Keith Jiron
“[S]elf-knowledge is so important that, even if you were raised right up to the heavens, I should like you never to relax your cultivation of it.”
-St. Teresa of Avila
“With mental prayer, either you will be made holy, or you will stop praying”
-St. Teresa of Avila
“Even the operating room of a surgeon shows no trace of blood until he starts to work on the patient. Go then to this [divine] physician for now is the time to be healed.”

-St. Ambrose
“The virginal womb of Mary is the altar where the Holy Spirit consecrates Christ, high Priest.”

Dcn. Peter Kennedy
"Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love."
-St. Therese of Lisieux
“If this is how You treat your friends, it is no wonder You have so few!”
-St. Theresa of Avila
“If there were only one meaning for the words, the first interpreter would find it, and all other listeners would have neither the toil of seeking nor the pleasure of finding.”
- St. Ephrem the Syrian
